Cleveland Cavaliers 95 Chicago Bulls 87
Since Brunson Trade: Chicago 1 - 2
December 21st, 2003

By Brunson Bench Buddy B-Huge.

Last night NBA fans were finally treated to LeBron versus LeBrun (as Rick Brunson's rabid following in France call him, but go figure, they worship Jerry Lewis as well). This key match-up between former high school phenoms sold-out the United Center and former Chicago Bull great Will Perdue was in attendance. LeBron and LeBrun must have been nervous with such a legend looking on.

The Chicago Bulls held the lead at the end of three quarters 73-70. For the first three minutes of the fourth quarter the Bulls failed to score with Brunson running his patented Heart Attack offence. The Cavaliers went on a 6-0 run during those three minutes to take a lead they would never surrender the rest of the way. In Brunson's defense the Bulls continued to sputter as they failed to score for another 2.5 minutes after he was substituted out. The Bulls hung in there and with 4 minutes left in the game they were only down 7 points.

Enter the Brunson.

In those final 4 minutes Brunson managed one assist while going 0 for 2. The man Brunson was covering, LeBron James (you might have heard of him), went 3 for 3 from the field and 6 for 6 from the foul line. LeBron actually scored all of Cleveland's points in those final 4 minutes. Wait a second...

"I'm a defensive player" - Rick Brunson, from a Steve Buffery article in the Toronto Sun that specifically ripped RickBrunson.com.

This game was evidence to the contrary.

Game Notes
  • Brunson's line: 18 minutes, FG: 1 for 5, FT: 4 for 4, 5 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists, 2 fouls, 4 steals, 1 turnover and 1 blocked shot (!?!).
  • Under Brunson's careful mentoring Jamal Crawford was 2 of 12 from the 3-point line. Crawford is now 5 for 37 from downtown in the three games since Brunson rejoined the Bulls.
  • Cleveland's Darius Miles recorded a DNP-CD, which puts him on the same level as Chris Jefferies except Chris has a university education, or at least he played for a university.

Does this look official?  It ain't. (C) 2003 Rick Brunson Fan Club -
