The Rick Report: Bulls Game #11
Boston Celtics 88 Chicago Bulls 77
Bulls Record Since Brunson Trade: 4 - 7
January 4th, 2004

By Brunson Bench Buddy B-Huge.

Rick Brunson: 4 minutes, 1 assist, 1 turnover. That's all there is to report. What else is there to say? The Bulls went on a 20-2 run in the second quarter without Brunson on the floor but also shot 22% in the second half without any help from Brunson either. Looking at the box score it would seem that Brunson's efforts had no effect on the outcome of this game... or did they?

If there is one thing I've learned from many years of listening to colour commentators babble on it's that sometimes the score sheet doesn't reveal all of a player’s efforts. The score sheet only tabulates that which is quantifiable such as points or turnovers. There are other important pieces to a player like "hustle" or "teamwork" or, Rick Brunson's favourite, "heart" that were unable to be measured with instruments UNTIL NOW!

The scientists hard at work in NBA laboratory have now completed a machine, tentatively called The Brunsonometer, that can measure "things that don't show up on the scoresheet." These "things" will now be called Brunsons. For example, if a player exhibits hustle the machine records one Brunson. The Brunsonometer was being tested at this game and here is Rick's new scoring line: 4 minutes, 1 assist, 1 turnover, 0 Brunsons.

Game Notes
  • Despite shooting 1 for 8 from the 3-point line, Jamal Crawford was the only Bull to score in double figures (16 points).
  • New town, same result for Michael "Yogi" Stewart: DNP-CD.
  • Two meaningless Kirk Hinrich free throws with 1 minute left allowed him to at least have more points (8) than turnovers (6).

Does this look official?  It ain't. (C) 2003 Rick Brunson Fan Club -
