| In case you missed it here was the actual transaction story as filed by The Associated Press: "The Toronto Raptors activated guard Rick Brunson from the injured list Sunday. The Raptors needed another point guard because starter Alvin Williams' sore left ankle has limited him to 20 minutes a game. To make room, forward Chris Jefferies was put on the injured list with a lower back strain."
Apparently Chris Jefferies afro is getting so high that his back can't support it. But let's get back to our main story and tally up how the
point guard minutes are distributed now...
|
Alvin Williams: 15 minutes
Milt Palacio: 33 minutes
Rick Brunson: 32.4 seconds |
It may not seem like much but it says a lot that Coach O'Neill has enough confidence in Brunson that he was on the court protecting that 13 point lead with 32.4 seconds left on the clock. The way he half-jogged to centre while Milt Palacio dribbled out the clock was a shining example of how professionals play their hardest even when the game seems out-of-reach. I hope the kids out there were watching and learned something.
Lost in Brunson's shadow Vince Carter had a stellar afternoon with 34 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. Milt Palacio was solid (meaning that next game he'll suck) with 14 points and 6 assists. Mengke Bateer is still perfect from the field after going 1 for 1. These three carried the offensive load as the Raptors posted their highest shooting percentage game of the season at 48.7% and had their second highest point total with 89. Can it be a coincidence that the offence improved with Rick Brunson newly activated? I don't think so!
