The Rick Report: Game #20
Toronto Raptors 108, Seattle Supersonics 98
Toronto 12-8
December 7th, 2003

By special Rick Report correspondent K-Mac.

Even with the Raptors' recent success (3-0 since the Chicago trade went down) I was a little wary coming into this game. The Raptors pulled out a win against Atlanta two days ago, but it was too close for my liking. C'mon, this is Atlanta! And now we're facing the Supersonics. Okay, they're not tearing up the western conference but they had a 9-7 record coming into tonight's game. Sure, they've played a lot of eastern conference teams so far this year so that record shouldn't be so intimidating, should it? Well, I've paid to see enough Raptors losses in the past that I wouldn't be putting any money on the outcome of tonight's game.

Had I sat down at half-time (which was gracefully abbreviated by D-Flex's TiVo) to write this game review the tone from the first paragraph would have persisted throughout it. But thankfully this is a Raptors team with which I am not familiar. This is a team that can come into the second half of a game and pull out a 10-point win, scoring over 100 points in regulation for only the second time this season. This is a team that can build a lead and hold onto it through the final minutes of a game. This is a team that can get a good performance out of the starters and expect something from the bench. This is a team that I enjoy watching.

The Raptors were definitely cold in the first half and especially cold in the first quarter. There could be many reasons for this including the recent start of winter weather in Toronto or the fact that it was an Sunday game and many of these guys were probably out partying last night, but I think the real problem was the absence of one Rick Brunson, bench-warmer extraordinaire. I mean, how can a team expect to stay warm when their asses are cold?

Once the team warmed up, however, we saw some impressive teamwork. Vince led the Raptors with 30 points and was clearly enjoying himself as he paused to have a laugh at Ansu Sesay's attempt at defense before draining a shot over him. Mo Pete, while playing particularly like Mo Pete for most of the game, had a great contribution of four 3-balls in the last ten minutes, accounting for all his points tonight. Bosh and Rose contributed for 22 and 18 points each, but those are not the most impressive numbers from that duo. Bosh also had 16 rebounds and 2 blocked shots while Rose had 10 assists. The highlight of the game had to be either Bosh putting down the ally-oop pass from Rose or blocking Calvin Booth's dunk attempt. Either way, Bosh was the man tonight.

Game Notes
  • Jalen Rose had 10 of Toronto's 30 assists.
  • Chris Bosh set a career-high with 16 rebounds and tied the franchise record for a rookie.
  • Seattle's Luke Ridnour stole his hair from the Grapes of Wrath.
  • Rod Black is worse than Leo.

Does this look official?  It ain't. (C) 2003 Rick Brunson Fan Club -
