The Rick Report: Game #11
Philadelphia 76ers 81 Toronto Raptors 75
Toronto 5 - 6
November 20th, 2003
This game was embarrassing on a couple of levels. First, the 76ers came into town without Allen Iverson, Glenn Robinson, and Derrick Coleman. They only dressed 9 players. Second, they made Marc Jackson (23 points) look like the second coming of Moses Malone. Third, the undermanned 76ers were playing on only a day's rest while the Raptors have had three days to recover from their last game.

| Fourth, when the Raptors found themselves similarly hobbled by injury last year nobody stepped up like Jackson, Aaron McKie and Eric Snow did during this game. All three of these guys played rock solid and earned this win. Fifth, Alvin Williams, Jerome Williams and Michael Curry combined for 2 points. That's the same number of points that Amal McCaskill had. While that trio did out-rebound McCaskill 5 to 1, McCaskill only played 16 minutes compared to the 63 minutes the others played combined.
The Raptors looked their worst tonight at the beginning and right after halftime. Not coincidentally that was when the starters were in the game. It took 8 minutes and 15 seconds before someone other than Vince Carter scored for the Raptors. It wasn't even a starter as Chris Bosh had come into the game by then. Bosh did have another solid game with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 blocks. Lamond Murray looked good on the offensive end too with 13 points on 6 for 12 shooting. The bench is definitely carrying its weight as the subs shot 15 for 33 (45.5%) compared to the starters 13 for 36 (36.1%).
I'll never understand the defense-first philosophy in basketball. The game is about scoring more points than your opponent. Some coaches need to realize that although there may be players that don't excel on defense, they may outplay their opponent on the offensive end. So long as they are scoring more points than their opponent you will win. Something has got to change. Although this whole website is predicated on the notion that Rick Brunson sucks he's got to be able to give us more than Alvin Williams. Rick can't replace a guy who is shooting 20% on the season? C'mon Coach O'Neill, give us the Heart Attack! At least Rick improved his DNP-CD to points ratio to 2:1 tonight.

- With the win the 76ers improve to 6-6, good enough for sole ownership of first place in the Atlantic Division.
- Canadian Samuel Dalembert had three blocks for the 76ers. All against Antonio Davis.
- In a move of marketing genius rivaling New Coke, BMO Bank of Montreal now has Chris Jefferies starring in their commercials.
