Parental Advisory Warning Issued for Knicks/Nuggets
It's A Spiked Knee Joint
December 12th, 2003

NBA Commissioner David Stern called a hasty press conference today to issue a Parental Advisory Warning for Saturday night's game between the New York Knicks and the Denver Nuggets. While the NBA has always billed itself as quality family entertainment the league felt this game had the possibility of being far different than any other in recent history.

"We'd like to warn the parents of any children planning on attending the Knicks/Nuggets game at Madison Square Garden tomorrow night. This warning also goes out to anyone who might be watching the game on TV. We feel that this game may contain violence and shocking gore that is inappropriate for those younger than 18 years of age," announced Stern from NBA Head Offices in New York.

Knicks GM Scott Layden was at the side of Stern while he made the announcement and took questions from reporters afterwards. He admitted that although there wasn't any bad blood between the two teams there was still the essential elements needed for the possibility of stomach-churning displays of blood and viscera, namely Nugget forward Marcus Camby and Knick forward Antonio McDyess.

Each player's career has been marred by chronic injury. Camby has never played more than 63 games in any of his 8 seasons. He played in 58 games total the past two seasons. McDyess has totalled 80 games in a season early in his career but has blown out each of his knees in the past two seasons which has caused him to miss 249 of his last 264 games. Since they were traded for each other a little more than a season ago Camby has played more games than McDyess, 48 to 5.

"We will have extra paramedics seated at courtside for Saturday's game as well as two orthopedic surgeons on call for emergency purposes," explained Layden, "I hope we don't have to use them but if we do I sure hope it's Camby. In fact I picked this game in our Camby injury pool at the last NBA General Managers meetings."

Stern was asked why the parental advisory was issued at the last minute after parents would have likely already purchased tickets for their kids to attend the game. Stern indicated that they've known this showdown of brittle big men was a possibility for weeks but they just assumed at least one of them would be injured by the time they got this far in the schedule.

"These guys get hurt about as often as I shit. I worry about them everytime a strong breeze is in the weather forecast. We figured it was a one percent chance at best that both of them would be available for this game," Stern said, "We thought that when Camby missed a game last week with a groin injury that we wouldn't have to worry about this one but, miraculously, he seems to be okay."

"Let it be Camby. Let it be Camby. Let it be Camby. Let it be Camby," Layden added.

Bookies in Las Vegas have laid out odds of 3 to 1 that McDyess blows out a knee during the game and they've indicated that there is a 2 to 1 chance that Camby turns to dust.

Does this look official?  It ain't. (C) 2003 Rick Brunson Fan Club -
