The Rick Report: The Game That Got Away
Toronto Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers - CANCELLED
October 24th, 2003

Arn? N'Arn!

Last night was supposed to be the hotshot rookie against the grizzled veteran. LeBron James was supposed to be screeched into the NBA but the 6000 Newfs who paid $85 apiece to see LeBron versus LeBrun went home disappointed. What the Raptors didn't reveal to the audience ahead of time was that last night was Rick Brunson Night in St.John's. In Rick Brunson's honour every player took a DNP-CD (Did Not Play - Court Drowned).

The weather in St.John's was unseasonably mauzy (that's Newf for humid) yesterday and so there was a large condensation build-up on the basketball court assembled above the Tournament Cod-Jigging Pool in Mile One Stadium. Due to the dangerous court conditions the game was cancelled. The Carl English Cup will go unclaimed this year. To paraphrase a great quote from The Simpsons: This is supposed to be a basketball game, not the bleedin' splish-splash show.

On an entirely related note subscribers of RaptorsTV were once again disappointed not to see their beloved team in pre-season action. Instead viewers were treated to the Chuck & Leo talking off the tops of their heads for an extended period of time. It was excruciating to watch. The bad news is that using RaptorsTV logic the Chuck & Leo Babble-Thon show will be added to the schedule instead of something good like actual basketball or Late Night With Mengke Bateer.

  • Mile One Stadium's concessions serve seal flipper on a stick.
  • The court wasn't the only problem last night as members of the audience kept running down to fix the holes in the bottom of the nets.
  • Raptors GM Glen Grunwald promised the fans that the Raptors would beback "within the next two years" which means that they will never have a chance to see Rick Brunson again.

Does this look official?  It ain't. (C) 2003 Rick Brunson Fan Club -
