| The NBA Champion Detroit Pistons drafted Doug Overton in 1991. He never made the team but he has bounced around the NBA now for 12 seasons. In that stretch he's played for 8 teams but that doesn't include two different stretches with Philly and now his third opportunity with Jersey. The only thing that Overton hasn't done? Called out Vince Carter after not even having played a single minute of a playoff game. That shows you the difference between an NBA nobody and an NBA laughingstock.
Saturday, the fans finally got the Brunson/Overton showdown they have been craving. In the 4th quarter of a close game no less! The collision of journeymen lived-up to the hype as Brunson totalled 2 points, 0 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 turnovers and 3 fouls. Overton kept Brunson in check with 2 points of his own. Methinks the basketball world will be talking about this game for years like Magic/Bird, Jordan/Drexler, or Ostertag/Drobnjak.
The Raptors held their own against the Nets through three quarters and actually led by 6 at the start of the fourth. Coach O'Neill then played Rick Brunson for the entire 4th quarter! The Raptors responded with their worst offensive 12 minutes of the pre-season as they tallied a measly 11 points. With this performance Brunson staked his claim to a mysterious knee ailment that will keep him on the Injured Reserve until Alvin Williams' foot falls off (any minute now).
