The Rick Report: Pre-season Game #4
Toronto Raptors 86 Denver Nuggets 81
October 17th, 2003

How does a team that shoots 51% from the field lose a basketball game when their opponents shoot 38%? That's what the Denver Nuggets are asking themselves right now. They made 32 of 63 shots and yet lose the game. Well I guess it helps that they turned the ball over 26 times. That number just jumps right out the box score. Since Raptors TV didn't carry the game (again) all one can do is look at the box score to figure out what happenned.

Since the Nuggets turned the ball over so many times we can go ahead and praise the Raptors' newfound defensive intensity. But when the

Nuggets did get off a shot they put the ball in the hoop over 50% of the time. This would suggest that the Raptors were giving up easy shots when the Nuggets were able to get them off. When the Raptors end up playing a good team (and the Nuggets are far from a good team) one
has to worry about whether this defence will hold up.

In a showdown of the super-rookies, Chris Bosh held his own with 11 points, 9 boards and 3 blocks. Carmelo Anthony, taken one pick ahead of Bosh, lit up the scoreboard with 19 points and 4 rebounds. Anthony shot 67% from the field. Anyone remember what LeBron James shot on Thursday? Oh yeah, 4 for 18.

Can you believe that this report has gone 3 paragraphs without once mentioning Rick Brunson? Well Rick's 6-minute effort on Wednesday night apparently did not earn him any minutes tonight. He registered his third DNP-CD of the pre-season. Rick wasn't the only superstar who didn't see the court tonight. The Nuggets' Jon Barry did not play because of a "cervical strain." Does that mean his cervix was injured? Ha ha what a pussy!

  • Former Raptor Marcus Camby played 17 minutes and did not sustain an injury. That's a personal best!
  • Former Raptor Voshon Lenard tallied a single assist. That's a personal best!
  • Yuta Tabuse did not play thus denying the fans a look at the greatest Japanese player in NBA history.

Does this look official?  It ain't. (C) 2003 Rick Brunson Fan Club -
