The editor at the Toronto Star was right because elsewhere in the city Steve Buffery was crafting some remarkable prose for the Toronto Sun. Although his article came quick on the heels of Smith's offering, Buffery knew he was beaten to the punch. That would explain why he was even quicker to get on Brunson's dick by resorting to petty insults in the opening of his piece.
Buffery's article was much more substantial than Smith's, clocking in at 474 words. Actually that would be 475 words if you include the misspelling of "humorous." Interestingly, Buffery had no quotes from Brunson himself about the website unlike Smith. One might think that this was strictly a reactionary story in order to make it seem like the Sun was hot on the Rick Brunson .com trail at the same time as the Star.
Both articles make mention that the identities of the creators of Rick Brunson .com remain a mystery. These gentlemen must be dedicated journalists so we can assume they made many attempts to uncover the enigma surrounding the site. Perhaps nobody responded to their repeated attempts to use the email address found on just about every page on the site. Maybe they couldn't find the correct threads on the various Toronto Raptor Internet message boards where Rick Brunson .com was garnering an outrageously positive response from like-minded Raptor fans. Or maybe, just maybe, this is the biggest conspiracy since the New York Knicks got the first pick in the 1985 draft.
No matter who or what is behind this mockery of millionaire butt-slappers we know that the fine scribes at all of Toronto's newspapers are out there keeping their ears to the streets in search of those who dare write what they cannot. We thank them for their tireless efforts and for handing us our biggest hit count yet.
