Brunson Not In It For The Money
August 25th, 2003

Rick Brunson signed with the Toronto Raptors just 12 days ago. This day will henceforth be known as 8/13 in Toronto and the surrounding area. Many news outlets, Rick Brunson .com included, mentioned in their reporting of this momentus occasion that the terms of the contract were undisclosed.

If one were to speculate about the reasons for not disclosing Brunson's contract terms they can only lead to one logical conclusion. Based on Brunson's stunning ability, broad marketing appeal, and proven leadership both on and off the court, one would have to assume that the amount Brunson is being paid is so fantastical that the ordinary citizen could not possibly fathom its immensity. Surely this contract stretches into the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Crack investigative reporting by the Rick Brunson .com news staff has uncovered the realities of the Brunson contract. It is quite a surprise indeed. Rick Brunson will be making the NBA Minimum salary for this coming season. Using the same sturdy skills of logic, one must assume that Rick Brunson plays the game not for the money but for the love of the game itself. Raptor fans across the nation can take heart that when Rick gets up off the bench to slap Vince Carter in the butt it is not because of his salary but because he really wants to slap Vince in the butt.

The cynics out there may assume that Raptor GM Glen Grunwald took advantage of Brunson's giving nature and happy-go-lucky demeanour in order to give him less that a player of his talent deserves. This is a possibility but seems unlikely since Grunwald is the same man who has been paying Eric Montross for the past few years and at one time had Michael "Yogi" Stewart as the fourth-highest paid player on the Raptors. No, the only logical conclusion is that Rick Brunson is more in tune with the common man than 99% of NBA players. Now when Toronto fans attend the game and they see Rick Brunson at courtside they know that Rick is just like them, except he's getting paid $870,000 US to watch the game too.

Does this look official?  It ain't. (C) 2003 Rick Brunson Fan Club -
